Classes & Seminars:

Practical Pruning Techniques:  Learn how and when to prune and cut back shrubs, trees and perennials in the landscape.  Proper pruning techniques and timing can dramatically improve a garden.  Classroom includes both indoor and outdoor instruction, depending on venue location and weather.  

3 hours $35/per student

Intro to Garden Design:  Ideal for beginners.  Learn the basics of good garden design including how to plan your own garden and required techniques to bring ideas to life.  Sources of inspiration will be discussed and students will learn how to create bloom charts.

4 hours $40/per student

Fragrant Shrubs & Vines:  Enjoy a wonderfully scented garden with a selection of easy-to-care for plants for sun and shade.  Information about organic growing techniques and mail order sources will be provided.

2 hours $25/per student

Native Plants for your Landscape:  Learn about dozens of native plant selections that are proven performers in residential landscapes.  Plants are selected for blooms, fragrance, foliage, ease of care, seasonal interest and quality of habitat, shelter or food source.  Handouts include a complete plant list.

2 hours $25/per student

Edible Landscaping:  This class provides instruction on the selection of and design characteristics for edible plant varieties.  Learn how edibles in the landscape are not only beautiful, but delicious!  Annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees are covered as well as basic planting, care and harvesting techniques.  

3 hours $35/per student

Common Plant Pests and Diseases:  Learn what pests and diseases are most likely to attack plants in your landscape and how to control them using natural, organic techniques.

2 hours $25/per student

Creating Wildlife Habitat:   How to create wildlife habitat that doubles as a beautifully landscaped gardenCourse discusses plant layering in the landscape, specific types of wildlife attracted and maintenance of natural gardens.  Discussion will touch on forest and meadow-type habitats.  Students will test their knowledge at the end of the course by creating a list of plants to incorporate into their home landscape that will increase wildlife habitat.  Each student should bring printed photographs of the landscapes they wish to enhance.  

3 hours $35/per student

Plant Identification:  Students will hear a lecture with handouts detailing plant ID of local perennials and woody ornamentals, then enjoy a walk through a landscape and test key identification features first hand.

2 hours $25/per student

Workshops:

Low Maintenance Plant Containers:  During class students will create a planted container with plants selected for seasonal interest.  Each student takes home their own planted container.  Plants, soil, fertilizer, containers and care instructions provided.  

2 hours $50/per student Class is available April-June and September-October

Bog Garden Containers:  Students will learn about bog plants and plant their own container to take home.  A selection of bog plants will be provided.  Each student is invited to choose plants for their own unique creation.  Plants, soil, containers and care instructions provided.

2 hours $65/per student Class is available May-September

Moss & Plant Terrariums:  Create an indoor plant terrarium designed by you!  Various mosses, terrarium plants and kitschy ornaments are provided that can be combined in ways limited only by imagination.  All materials, including terrariums, provided.  Students may provide their own terrariums.  

2 hours $50/per student

Re-Purposed Garden Containers:  Plants are hardy creatures and can survive (and even thrive) in the most unusual spaces.  Teapots, old silverplate, shoes and light fixtures are only the tip of the iceberg.  Students are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own containers.  A variety of indoor and outdoor plants, planting medium and containers provided.  

2 hours $40/per student

Straw and Wire Garden Sculptures:  Create an outdoor garden sculpture that will last years using straw and wire.  Flying pigs, geese, mermaids and seahorses make surprising and whimsical additions to any garden. Tools, wire, straw and stakes are provided. A short lecture on technique is provided then students create their own sculptures with assistance from the instructor.  Installation and maintenance instructions provided. Students must bring leather gloves to class.
